Black Balloons, The Black Sun and The End of Days

If you haven't already PLEASE go visit Bev at Exploring the Mysterious . The balloon parade continues, and this time with deathly symbolism...It seems my shadow aferrismoon
has been overcome by The Black Sun himself...having taken an interesting photo just days ago!

Consider Soundgarden's 1994 Classic "Black Hole Sun"
A cleansing for the coming age? This side note about the song...After the September 11, 2001 attacks, Clear Channel included the song on its list of possibly inappropriate songs. Now why would they do that? Unless the song was hitting a little too close to home.

Black Hole Sun
In my eyes
Indisposed
In disguise
As no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
The sun
In my disgrace
Boiling heat
Summer stench
'Neath the black
The sky looks dead
Call my name
Through the cream
And I'll hear you
Scream again

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come

Stuttering
Cold and damp
Steal the warm wind
Tired friend
Times are gone
For honest men
And sometimes
Far too long
For snakes
In my shoes
A walking sleep
And my youth
I pray to keep
Heaven send
Hell away
No one sings
Like you
Anymore

Hang my head
Drown my fear
Till you all just
Disappear

Or Dead Can Dance's "Black Sun" from the 1990 album Aion

Murderer!
Man of fire.

Murderer!
I've seen the eyes of living dead.
It's the same game - survival.
The great mass play a waiting game.
Embalmed, crippled, dying in fear of pain.
All sense of freedom gone.

Black sun in a white world.
Like having a black sun in a white world.

I have a son,
His name is Eden.
It's his birthright,
Beyond estranged time.

Give me 69 years,
Another season in this hell.
It's all sex and death as far as I can tell.

Like Prometheus we are bound,
Chained to this rock of a brave new world,
Our godforsaken lot.
And I feel that's all we've ever needed to know,
'Til worlds end and the seas run cold.

Give me 69 years,
Another season in this hell.
There is sex and death
In mother nature's plans.

Like Prometheus we are bound,
Chained to this rock of a brave new world,
Our godforsaken lot.

We can't close without my hometown pals R.E.M. and 1987's oddly prophetic "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" Check some of the lyrics...low flying planes, wires in fires, crops, foreign towers.

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane -
Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn -
world serves its own needs, regardless of your own needs. Feed it up a knock,
speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height,
down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for
hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies
breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered
crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population,
common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its
own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the
reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright
light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign tower. Slash and burn,
return, listen to yourself churn. Lock him in uniform and book burning,
blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle,
light a motive. Step down, step down. Watch a heel crush, crush. Uh oh,
this means no fear - cavalier. Renegade and steer clear! A tournament,
a tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives
and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mount St. Edelite.
Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic,
slam, but neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine...fine...

(It's time I had some time alone)

At Daily Behemoth his most recent article highlights the death of 26 pilgrims to Altotting, in a coach crash.
In the REM lyrics:
Automotive incinerate
Light a candle, light a motive [ could this be votive candle?]
Watch a heel crush [ looked momentarily like wheel crush]
.... steer clear
plus the 2nd most recent at mine : Tod reise

The first thing that sprung for me was Princess Di as we got "Candle in the Wind" rehashed. I think votive is certainly implied. The light a "MOTIVE" is very interesting.
